The MBA previously hosted the inaugural Palm Biodiesel Conference in August 2017 in Kuala Lumpur. This year, the Association played host once again to this important event, which provided valuable opportunity for the palm biodiesel industry, its valued partners, stakeholders and the Government from both local and abroad, to meet again in person, particularly after the Covid-19 pandemic; to share updates, experiences and most importantly, to network with one another.

The theme Balancing Carbon Neutrality, Energy Security & Social Impact” was chosen for this year’s conference to reflect the palm biodiesel industry’s role in supporting national and global targets towards carbon neutrality, providing sustainable alternatives to common energy sources and its contribution to the social well-being of the society.

The conference was officiated by YAB Dato' Sri Haji Fadillah bin Haji Yusof, Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia and Minister of Plantation and Commodities at the Putrajaya Marriott Hotel. Close to 130 delegates from both local and abroad, participated in the conference where they shared their insights and discussed the different aspects of the palm biodiesel / biofuel industry; from its market dynamics, the impact from national and international policy framework, case studies on usage and its applications in the different sectors, to the status of national biodiesel implementation programmes in Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand.

In conjunction with the opening ceremony of the conference, YAB Dato’ Sri Haji Fadillah bin Haji Yusof also flagged-off PETRONAS’ first palm biodiesel B100-fuelled road tanker. Collaborating with the Ministry of Plantation and Commodities, Malaysian Palm Oil Board, Scania Malaysia Sdn Bhd and Shaziman Transport Sdn Bhd, PETRONAS is the first energy company in Malaysia to undertake this endeavour that underscores its commitment to the National Agricommodity Policy and support the implementation of lower carbon fuel solutions within Malaysia's transportation sector.

A conference banquet was also held on October 2, 2023 evening with the aim to enhance networking and collaboration opportunities among industry players, its partners, stakeholders and the Government. The MBA also celebrated its 15th anniversary since its establishment in September 2008 during the conference banquet.
